Two years ago Aldea Maya was contacted by the Catholic Church charity group CARTERAS. They were working in the Lake Atitlan area on environmental issues and wanted to know if our university students would be interested in partnering. Eight of our students volunteered. The students participated in workshops focusing on ways to successfully address issues like climate change and single use plastics.

CARTERAS informed us that partnering with Aldea Maya was a very successful experience and they would like to support our organic garden project in the Chuk Muk elementary school.

In the last few months they have supplied the materials and expertise for installation of a water storage tank and drip sprinkler system.

They also helped to replace our garden beds with new bamboo. You do not purchase bamboo at the store. We had to go into the mountains and cut it down.
