Today we went into town first thing to pick up some fresh fruits and vegetables, some of which Louise will need for her nutrition class later that afternoon.

After the market we headed back the office beside the school to start dividing up all of the donations we had received for each of the grade one classes. We got puzzles, dolls, lego, cars, building blocks…. Once we had all of the toys and games into each of the toy bins, we carried them over to the school and started taking them into the classrooms!

The children were ecstatic! Immediately rushing over to see what we had come with. Didn’t take any convincing for us to  to play alongside with them!

Shortly after, Louise had a nutrition class planned and went to meet with the girls who will be teaching classes on chaya. While we were there, Ana got to receive a gift from her sponsor. She was ecstatic about her Canada purse!

Let the nutrition class begin! Here is Juana Maria learning how to teach her own nutrition class. This way she can teach her knowledge to her friends and family!

The  last task of the day was to get a start  remodeling and improving our garden system at the elementary school. Unfortunately the gardens were without water for several months and have almost completely dried up since the last trip down the Chukmuk.

We started off by making a larger garden area for sweet potatoes since they are such a staple food item to have here. Next we removed all of the small rocks surrounding the garden beds and filled the spaces with taller rocks so we could have deeper garden beds! Final step of the day….. Watering every single plant for what seemed like hours!!!

We will pick up where we left off on Sunday!
