Today was definitely a garden program day. We started off the day with the two grade 4 classes. We were teaching them how to make mini greenhouses using 3 litre pop bottles and toilet rolls. We were very fortunate that Semana Santa was last week as people here drink pop for big celebrations…usually we have much difficulty in finding pop bottles.

Most families use old newspaper or any paper they can find in the bathroom. As a result we collect toilet rolls from a local hotel. This is a great project as it is very labour intensive for the students and it barely costs any money. They just love making the little plant pots out of toilet rolls once the figure out how to close the bottom. The students learn about how a greenhouse works. Tomorrow we will add the organic soil and seeds.
