We were teaching all about Folic Acid today. We showed the students food that is a great source of folic acid. Then we played a memory game with prizes to see how well the students were listening.

We explained why you need folic acid and showed pictures of a child with a cleft palet. Explaining that a mom needs to eat folic acid rich food before she even knows she is pregnant.

Next we had a fun cooking class were every student helped to make a citrus avocado salsa. The students love to cook.

Her sister that is one year older can not speak Spanish, read or write. She never got the opportunity to go to school. The youngest child is 1. The father diserted the family 3 months ago. They support themselves through beadwork. This is a very poor family. They do have papaya and banana plants from our garden program.

We then headed to Bryan Jonathons home. This family is doing better as they have a dad and only 3 children. However Jonathon would not be able to attend Basico without help. This family lost 7 family members in the Panabaj mudslide.

Next Shirley and I headed to visit Rosario. Rosario is allergic to the sun. Shirley had bottles of sunscreen from her local pharmacy to give her.

We then visited Davids home. This is a family of a mom and child. This family also has fruit trees growing from our garden program. This family is so poor. They have a mattress bought by QBMS in Qualicum but desperately need a bedframe and a onil stove.

In the afternoon Shirley and I visited the Basico and worked on more English bookmarks. We also had a few games of English word Bingo. We are working with the English teacher to help him improve and add more variety to his teaching style.
