Well today was really busy.

Visited the two grade 5 classes and started working on the chicken projects. The students received their chicken books and we discussed the requirements for a chicken corral and coop.

We also went over what was expected of each student. The students have to construct a safe chicken area. We will then send around a student with a camera to take a picture of each coop. No chicken coop – no chickens.

Chicken survival is very important in this project. If the chickens do not survive for at least 6 months it is a waste of money.Last years chickens that were not alive 6 months later were stolen, eaten, sold, killed by dogs or killed by illness. Every year our survival rate increases.

This year we are going to explain to the mom’s not only the students the cost of these chickens. These chickens cost $11 each and are very good egg layers!!!

This year every student has to pay 2 keychains for the 2 large chickens and feed. The students are really excited about this project.

The children have 10 days to build a chicken area. The classes will be learning about feeding of chickens, care of chickens, egg nutrition and egg cookery in the next few weeks
