Chuk Muk New School
On Tuesday Cam and Louise travelled to Chuk Muk and visited the new school built by the Spanish Government. The school is already being used, even though some sections have yet to be completed. The school is really nice and much better than the previous building the school used. There is even a covered basket ball, and soccer court.
The new BASICO for Chuk Muk starting January next year is now looking very much a reality. All the required paperwork and legwork has been completed, and the principal believes that the Basico is 95% a reality. Initially this basico will be the first year of basico – grade 7 equivalent. This will be Aldea Maya’s next big drive – provide the funds to run this basico, as the government does not get involved for the first couple years. Stay tuned for more developments.

Visited 3 families that received gardens last February. These gardens are doing great. For several months now, these gardens have produced raddish, carrots, beans, watermelon, spinach, zucchini, tomato,cabbage, lettuce. Many thanks to West Coast Seeds who donated the seeds. The families are all excited to receive more seeds to keep the gardens going.
Visited the home of sponsored kids #618, 619 whose mother had received a micro loan though Aldea Maya, to start a little store. A refrigerator was purchased along with some staple supplies. The store is doing great. The mother is very excited that she’s now a store owner and is already thinking that she needs to get a bigger refrigerator to cope with the demand
