Today am taking a relaxing day in Panajachel.

Only one thing to do;

The father of # 10 Francisco,#11 Pedro and #12 Susana has been helping us for a few years on our projects. He has lost his home twice due to mudslides. He also rented land and had a beautiful 2 acre vegetable garden…which was also destroyed twice. He has worked as a labourer on our house building project and worked with Aldea Maya last year on getting the  6 gardens ready. He does not rent land any more as he lost the garden 2 years in a row. He now works when he can in the coffee bean plantations. Unfortunately he has to travel a large distance to get to his work and the transport is expensive. He will be receiving a bike today. He will work for one day for free and we are buying 35 keychains from the family at a reduced price. ( though still for more than they usually make).In this way he and his family have helped pay for the bike…they have earned it.

The father of #38 Salvador, # 36 Pedro and #26 Diego also is receiving a bike. He helped us on all the same projects as the above fellow and is also working one day for free and suppling beadwork.

Aldea Maya also purchased 2 bike tires and 2 inner tubes for the father of #13 Diego and #14 Ana Barbara.

All three men need to travel a long distance to work and these bikes will make the journey free. These families are very poor and each family has between 5 and 7 children….not paying for transport means more money for food.

These bikes can also be used to go into town to the market to buy food. There is some food available in Chuk Muk but it is expensive plus one needs the market for fruit and vegetables.
