Last year there was 50 students in kindergarten so we raised enough money with the mini sponsorship Christmas card sales to buy 50 children in grade one shoes,backpack etc. It seems you do not have to go to kindergarten as we have 100 students in grade 1 this year!!! We therefore have to buy 50 more backpacks. We also will have to buy less expensive shoes.
We went to the market to see Erlinda, our amazing garden lady. Last October we gave her 2 containers to try growing sweet potatoes and ordinary potatoes in. These are really need contraptions that allow you to harvest potatoes while the plant is still growing. It also allows you to grow a lot of potatoes in a small space. In the afternoon we went to her home and the potato growers are a huge success!!!!.Now we will have to figure out how to make them out of materials available in Guatemala.
