We are over half way through the school year in Chuk Muk and are starting to plan for the next school year. It is very exciting that 9 of our high school students will be graduating this October. We at Aldea Maya are really trying to make a long term difference in the lives of our students and the community. At one time, graduating high school would ensure a decent job…however that is no longer the case. We are therefore endeavouring to get our students a university education. Our goal is to find groups of people willing to come together and help one student.

To help us reach our goal we are putting on a garden tea in Qualicum to help find sponsorship for 3 of the 9( all 9 are partially sponsored). Here are our first 3 students: Juana Maria who wants to be a high school teacher, Carlos who wants to study social work and Elena whose goal is accounting. If you are interested in helping please let us know.

Our gardens are continuing to produce a variety of crops. One crop we are really pleased with is our bean crop. Here you can see 3 different dried beans. This is very important as they can be stored and used when the yield from the gardens are reduced…helping to ensure a continuous crop for families and the school meal program.
