Over the last week Aldea Maya has been working on a grey water system for the Chuk Muk elementary school kitchen.

Our first step was to repair the school cement sink

To make the banana circle we needed to dig a whole and put rocks to circle.

Next we planted the banana plants leaving an area in the middle. The grey water from the pila ( sink) will drain into the centre of the whole feeding the banana plants.

The banana plants will act as a natural filter for the grey water. The added bonus for this system is a great crop of bananas. Wood ash from the school stoves will also be recycled in the circle.
