IMAP with DiegoToday was Diego’s first day of work. He is taking over his dad’s job. Today we took him to San Lucas Toliman to visit IMAP. IMAP is an amazing permaculture organization that we partner with. As Diego has very little garden knowledge we need to ensure that he is trained in maintenance of organic gardens, seed collection, composting and so much more.

Neal and Diego

Neal at IMAP has offered to help Diego for free. One day a week Diego will travel to IMAP and work with Neal. This is a fantastic opportunity. One of  IMAP’s volunteer groups is also going to give 2 students in Chukumuk a one week permaculture course for free. All I can say is WOW!!!

This is a great next step for our nutrition and cooking programs. Finally, Ronnie the IMAP director, wants to work with us to develop a sustainable chicken and duck program. Grade 6 grad

In the afternoon there was the Grade 6 Graduation. This is a huge deal in Guatemala as most students do not continue past grade 6. Aldea Maya paid for the majority of the ceremony and the families were so thankful.  In Guatemala students purchase a new outfit for graduation. In Chukumuk we have it that this outfit is the uniform for the middle school. Therefore all the students continuing their education already have the uniform.
