Today was the ceremony for the first graduates from the middle school we started 3 years ago. In Guatemala less than 1% graduate high school. It is a totally amazing feat that we have 23 students graduating from grade 9. The village and parents were so proud of their graduates.
All but 2 of these students would not have gone past grade 6 without the support that Aldea Maya gives to each student. Every student that goes to the school receives their supplies and fees. The students then have to donate 10 hours helping in the elementary school and make a few beaded items for Aldea Maya to sell in Canada.

This is Cristobal. His family is incredibly poor and have many children. His parents decided that they could not afford for Cristobal to continue, he needed to work.
