Today we headed into Santiago to pick up wood for the gardens and Basico woodworking project. It is not cheap to hire a pickup so you try to do as many projects as you can.

We also loaded up the bed that we are delivering to Cristobals home. This lovely bed was donated by Rich Buhre at Carpenter’s Son International.  When we delivered the bed,  which was expertly put together by Kristie. Cristobal and Juan Daniel wanted to know whose bed it was. I said they could share it. Prior to delivery there were 2 beds for 9 people and the boys had to sleep on the floor.

They were excited to have a bed with mattress cover and 2 nice sheets.

We had all the wood delivered for first and second year Basico Industrial Arts ( wood work). 5 Basico students helped unload.

Ana’s family has finally agreed to get her the surgery to fix her eyes. Here she is receiving a lovely photo page from her sponsor.

We then went to the school to start the mini greenhouse project but school ended early once again!!!

We worked on making the garden and chicken coop more secure by adding more posts and cross beams. We then were taught how to secure cane to the structure by the Guardian, Juan.

One of the teachers, Gaspar, helped us with the cutting until the electrical blackout. He also helped with the chicken coop which was his idea. He is a great teacher who is frusterated as he has many ideas and the administration  will not listen to them.

We were helped for several hours by a little boy in grade 2.He was so happy to be helping us and such a great worker. Half an hour before we quit another little boy came to help. Both boys had terrible basically non existant shoes.

We sent them to get their mothers to see if we could take them into town to buy them shoes. Only one mom showed up as the other mother has terrible headaches and is confined to bed. This moms child is 7 and not in school. There is no dad and the family is way too poor.

We took both to Santiago with the one mom and bought them shoes and the one boy jeans. On Monday I will get him into school.

Just hanging out with some Basico students.
