Today was such a busy day. We had organized for a driver, Antonio, to drive from Santiago to pick us up. We headed to Solola to buy supplies.

 

 

In Solola we purchased 2 stoves for the Home Economics program…Thank you Parksville lunch time Rotary for the donation that is enabling us to offer a nutrition and cooking program in our Basico.

Next we purchased a large bag of argricultural lime for our garden programs.

We also bought a cotton mattress for the wooden bed that was donated to us by Carpenter’s Son International, One of our Basico students that has been sleeping on the floor for years now will have a bed and sheet. All our sheet donations come from Old Dutch Inn in Qualicum.

We then headed back to Panajachel and received a gift of Chaya plants and 2 bags of cow manure. Curtis also checked out the soil samples we gave him from the NEW school garden. He was only able to check acidity today but later in the week he is going to do a more thorough test.

Curtis also gave us some sweet potatoes which we will use as seeds. Laura dug them out of the garden for us.

We then headed to our garden lady, Herlinda’s, home to purchase bags of organic compost and papaya plants for next weeks grade 3 classes school project. Herlinda had started some pumpkin seeds in pop bottle grrenhouses for us. We are going to show these to the students. We also bought some tomato plants for the school garden.

We then continued onto Chukumuk where we unloaded the truck…it was a long day!!!
