Jasmin had lost a lot of weight as was very sickly. The doctors think she may have arthritis. The family did not have the money for the blood tests. We gave them the money and will have the results next week. The father died several years ago. The mom use to be a cook in one of the best restuarants in town but has not been able to work as she has a herniated disc in her spine. She did go to Guatemala city for one operation and left her 3 children with her aunt. Unfortunately the aunt beat the children. The mom is now too afraid to go for more surgeries as she has no one to look after her kids. The uncle is presently letting them live in a room in his house and buying them some food but this will not last.It was sad visiting this family but we are working on some solutions. We have put Jasmin on the milk program. We are getting the mom taught beadwork as she can sit for long periods but not stand. If the sanitary pad program is a success the mom may help with construction as she is a friend of Gladys mom.
