The rest of the week has been spent organizing the students going to high school. In Guatemala there are many different options for high school. As a result we have students going to 7 different high schools in 4 different towns….as you can imagine this takes up a lot of time: visiting the different high schools, paying the fees, finding out their requirements for supplies. The next step has been working out how much supplies to purchase. It is not like at home where you get a binder and paper. They have many different notebooks of different sizes with different types of paper. Needless to say this has taken hours to work out.

We have been distributing small gifts to sponsor students. Here is Aury with her muchly appreciated gift.

For several year Mayan Families has had a wonderful pre school in Chukumuk. Unfortunately due to financial reasons that have closed the school. As you can imagine the young moms have been devastated. The elementary school has organized for students at the teachers high school ( a 5 minute walk away) to operate a pre school.  There is no money for this project. The bare cement walled classroom has just mini desks and chairs. It is quite somber.

Carlos Daniel Rodrigues, pictured here in front of one of his lovely murals, is going to design a mural on this wall. And some of our students are going to paint it. This will make the room much more cheery. We are also using the money Springwood raised to purchase paper and crayons for the 3 to 4 year old children.
