Today was another brilliant sunny day in Guatemala. We started the smaller of the school gardens today. Cristobal, Juan Daniel and their dad had the task of turning the piece of land into a workable area.

I can not believe such a small area had so much large rocks. Several were so big that we decided to just leave them.
Juan Daniel and Cristobal are 2 of our Basico students. Their family is very poor, partially due to the number of children in the family. The parents were not going to let them continue in school. I am getting them working for me and paying them good money. I am also talking to the dad about the boys futures and can see a change in his attitude.

I also visited the stationary store and bought more school supplies for Ana’s ( Makena Smith’s sponsor child) siblings. Ana is very cross eyed and is having trouble in school with reading. The area is just dust and rocks. We added 5 large bags of organic compost. The boys had collected black dirt from the mountain. This was also added. On Friday we are getting 2 bags of cow manure. We also will be adding a coffee product. Hopefully the dirt will be a bit better then what was there originally.
I sure hope the next garden, which is huge, is a wee bit easier.
