In September 2016, a commercial sewing program started in Chuk Muk. The majority of the funding for this project is from an International Rotary grant in affiliation with the Lantzville Morning Rotary Club. This program is working with Consorcio Women's cooperative and Conscious Clothing Company. Handwoven, organic cotton will be naturally dyed at Consorcio and this fabric will be used by the sewing cooperative to produce fair trade items such as clothing and bags for chocolate. Aldea Maya is always looking for ways to increase the incomes of the people from Chukmuk as they from the mudslide in 2005 they lost everything.
