Today was another rainy day in Chuk Muk. We never seem to dry out. However this is great news for the village as I have not seen it so green. Last year there was not really a rainy season and as a result the crops did not grow and there was extreme hardship for many. This year the crops are flourishing and we can thank all the storms that are devastating the Caribbean. Our volunteer Bev is having a wonderful time meeting the locals.

Here we have Bev and out garden guy, Felipe, organizing them. Felipe has been working with Aldea Maya for just over six months. He is a specialist in organic gardening and permaculture, We had never visited his home in the village. Felipe has only had a regular salary for these last 6 months and as a result is quite poor. His home is a portion of his mother in laws house. He has 2 young children that had only one doll between them. They were very excited to each get a stuffed animal. One of his daughters has been very ill and has used up a lot of Felipe’s salary in medical bills. We have been helping with the costs.
