This is an amazing event as less than 1% graduate high school and we have over 20 students graduating grade 9. The parents are very proud of their child’s accomplishment.
The girls are wearing guipils ( blouses) that they embroidered in Home Economics class for their graduation. This is helping to keep Mayan traditions alive and give the girls a skill that they can use to make money.The girls are also wearing stunning beaded belts ( fajas) that they also made in Home Economics class. The majority of the students are sponsored and received new shoes for this important event. Everyone of these students started grade 7 without a sponsor.
