Today we started our nutrition and cooking classes with one grade 3 classes. We usually talk about Vitamin A and C, however we decided to focus on only Vitamin C today and have a cooking class. We brought in all the good sources of Vitamin C from the market and showed them to the students.

We then covered the 17 different foods over and played a memory game …every student remembered more than 8 sources of Vitamin C and received a prize from our prize bag.

 

 

 

 

We then made Papaya smoothies. Each child got the opportunity to cut up fruit and make much fun was had by all!!

Next week we will talk about care of the Papaya plant and Vitamin A.

Jaime, Catherine and I went down to the new Home Economics room and started putting film on the south facing window. We have had problems with break-ins and theft so we had a welding team there putting in metal security bars.

The film we laboriously put on the tiny little windows in mirrored. Therefore it stops people being able to see into the room and cuts down the afternoon heat by 79%…..We will finish this project on Monday.

In the afternoon the 3rd year Basico students put on a play for the volunteers. They also dressed in traditional clothing and preformed a dance.

They then insisted that all of us participate in a traditional dance. It is much harder than it looks and fun was had by all.
